Bob Pugh, CFA, CFP®, oversees the management of Insight Wealth Management, Inc. and its investment and financial planning processes. He reviews all client portfolios. Bob has nearly 30 years of experience in investment, economic and financial analysis; financial planning; portfolio management; and financial education. His expertise ranges from municipal finance and regional economics from working as a senior financial analyst with the Prince William County, Virginia government to global economics from working as an economic analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency.
He served as director of investment research with another firm in the 1990s, a US Foreign Service Officer in the 1980s, and for seven years as a tenured college faculty member in economics. Bob has worked full-time and directly with private investors and charitable institutions for over a decade.
In addition to his role at Insight Wealth Management, Inc., Bob has taught portfolio management, investment analysis, finance, and economics to graduate and undergraduate students for more than 25 years, most recently as a member of the Finance Department Practitioner Faculty with the Johns Hopkins University's Carey School of Business, and for the Business of Medicine program with the Johns Hopkins University’s School of Medicine. He has taught candidates preparing for the Chartered Financial Analyst exams since 1998. Currently, Bob teaches the Level III CFA Exam review courses for the CFA Society of Washington, DC and the World Bank Treasury.
He earned graduate degrees in global political economy from The Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies and in financial economics from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNC-G). He graduated with honors from UNC-G in 1979 with majors in economics and political science. Bob ranked among the top-ten chess players in North Carolina as a high school student, and once tied for first place in a chess tournament at the Johns Hopkins University.
Bob is a leader in his profession and was honored by his colleagues in the CFA Society of Washington, DC, the leading society for investment professionals in the area, by his election to serve two terms as President of the then 1,700-member organization. He has also served as the society's Treasurer, Education Chair, and Public Awareness Chair, and for several years on the Board of Directors. He was elected at the CFA Institute's annual conference in April 2009 to serve a two-year term as Eastern Region Presidents Council Representative. In this role, Bob represented CFA Societies from Maine to Virginia before the CFA Institute and its Board of Governors.
As an active member of and volunteer in his community Bob is currently involved in many roles. He is currently Board Chair of the Health Systems Agency of Northern Virginia (HSANV), which reviews proposals for new hospitals, health care facilities and other resources in the Northern Virginia region. He manages the endowment funds and is investment advisor pro bono for Centreville United Methodist Church and Medical Missionaries. Bob also is a certified Lay Speaking Minister in the United Methodist Church in Virginia and active in the United Methodist Church in other ways.
Bob has been a member of Mensa™ since 1999. He is currently a proctor for candidates taking the Mensa qualification test, and has served as Public Relations Officer and Testing Coordinator for Metropolitan Washington Mensa (MWM).
